Premarital Counseling

Specialized Clinical Care – Frisco, TX

Marriage is one of the most beautiful and most demanding commitments two people can make. Premarital counseling is not about predicting whether it will work. It is about giving the two of you a quiet, honest space to know each other more fully, build the skills marriage will ask of you, and walk into your wedding day not only in love, but well-prepared. Some couples come because their faith community recommends it. Some come because they want to invest in their relationship with the same care they have invested in everything else. Some come because there is a specific conversation they have been circling and have not been able to land. We want you to know this: choosing to do this work is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a sign that you are taking your “yes” seriously — and that is one of the strongest beginnings a marriage can have.

In sessions, we walk alongside you as you slow down together. We help you build communication and conflict skills that will matter long after the wedding, surface the conversations that often get pushed off until they show up under stress, and explore the histories, hopes, and quiet expectations each of you is bringing into this marriage. We tailor our work to the couple you actually are — whether this is a first marriage, a remarriage, a marriage that will blend families, a long courtship coming to a close, or a season where you simply want a thoughtful place to be honest with each other. Common areas we work with include:

  • communication, conflict, and the patterns each of you has brought from past relationships and family of origin
  • money — values, debt, spending, saving, joint finances, and the family stories you each grew up inside
  • intimacy and sex — expectations, history, and the long conversation marriages have around this
  • children — whether to have them, how to parent, fertility, and shared values around raising a family
  • existing children, co-parents, and the work of blending families
  • religion, spirituality, and how you will honor both of your traditions over time
  • in-laws and family of origin — how close, how often, and how to navigate the inevitable tensions
  • roles, work, and the question of how you will share the load of a shared life
  • mental health and trauma histories, and how you will support each other through hard seasons
  • past relationships and any baggage that has followed you here
  • shared dreams, goals, and the life you are hoping to build together
  • the harder conversations you have been avoiding, and the courage to land them gently

You do not need to have everything figured out before you walk in, and you do not need to be in conflict to begin. We would be happy to walk through this with you. Step by step, you and your counselor will build a foundation that does not just get you to the wedding — it prepares you for the long, brave, ordinary, and meaningful work of being married.
